My practice begins with observation, whether in the city, a garden, an open landscape, or through drawing from life. These experiences become the starting point for a process of abstraction, where memories, sensations and fragments of place are translated into layered visual compositions. Drawing sits at the centre of my practice. Through repeated observation and mark-making, I gather information from spaces, structures and rhythms that surround me. Architectural lines, shifting light, human presence and natural forms are absorbed, reinterpreted and built into the surface of my work. I work intuitively, allowing forms to emerge, dissolve and reappear through successive layers of paint, drawing and written marks. These works are a process of actions; incomplete, shifting and constantly reconstructed, mirroring the way experience and memory operate. Sustainability is an important part of my practice. I frequently work with reclaimed and found materials, including discarded wood, fabric and other recovered surfaces. These materials bring their own histories to the work and reflect my interest in the relationship between people, place and environment. Ultimately, my work invites moments of slower looking. Through abstraction, I aim to create spaces where viewers can reflect on their own experiences of memory, observation and connection to the world around them.
